The Functional SCILLS classroom provides a positive learning environment in which students can successfully learn functional academics and acquire skills in the areas of communication, daily living, pre-vocational and self-advocacy. Direct, individualized instruction takes place within a structured environment that emphasizes daily schedules and predictable procedures and routines. This self-contained program helps our students with special needs live more independent, productive lives in their homes, at school and within their community.
My name is Christine Braun and I am the Functional SCILLS teacher. This is my fourth year working within Gilbert Public Schools. I have had the privilege of working with our students with autism at Gilbert High School prior to joining the Hawk Family here at Highland High School.
I received my bachelors in childhood education at Buffalo State College and received my masters in special education at Medialle College.
I grew up in Buffalo, New York (Go Bills!) where I spent a majority of my life freezing to death in our long, drawn out winters. Now that I have officially thawed out here in Arizona, I enjoy hiking, gardening, watching sporting events and spending time with family and friends.
