The DIALS Program (Daily Independent Adult Living Skills) is designed to assist students will special needs in acquiring important life skills necessary for transitioning from the school system into post=secondary adult life. Young adults in the program will participate in intensive life skills instruction in real life settings. On campus lessons are facilitated in an apartment like setting where the students are provided with hands-on activities designed to promote skill development and increased independence. Classroom lessons are also presented to provide focused instruction covering a variety of adult life skills concepts. In addition, community based instruction is provided through regular community outings. During these outings the young adults gain experience in accessing and utilizing local community sites while practicing concepts learned in class.
I have Canadian roots but have lived in Arizona since 1992. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in Theatre Arts Education. I hold additional certifications in English and Special Education (Cross-categorical). I taught High School theatre for nine years with two of those years in the Special Education Department in the Sunnyside Unified School District in Tucson, AZ. I then took a break to be a stay-at-home mom to raise a family. During which time I started my own piano business, "Creative Kids Piano Studio." I am an accomplished pianist and was trained through the Royal Conservatory of Music. In 2013 I re-entered the teaching field where I taught LD English at Benjamin Franklin High School for two years. In 2015, I transferred to Highland High School which is also my home school to where my children attend. I have been blessed to have traveled throughout my life. I lived in Northern England for three years and traveled throughout Europe several times to explore historical sites. My greatest joy is helping others and raising my family.
