“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.” --Stephen King
Subject or Grade:
Dual Enrollment 101/102
“Read, read, read. Read everything - trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it. Then write. If it's good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out of the window.” --William Faulkner
“The purpose of a writer is to keep civilization from destroying itself.”--Albert Camus
I’m originally from Ohio and miss the four seasons—especially fall and spring, heck, even winter. I have been teaching for 17 years (time flies!); 14 of those years at HHS. I love teaching the writing process and helping my students discover the power and beauty of words (though the grading is a bit overwhelming). During the summer of 2015, I had the privilege of studying Jane Austen as well as Victorian Literature at Oxford University. Talk about the beauty of language! I also have a passion for travelling and learning about the places and people I visit—whether road trips throughout the U.S. or traveling overseas (to that end, I’m the co-sponsor for the Highland Globetrotters). Speaking of dogs…we were, weren’t we? I will shamelessly share photos and tell stories about my dog who is frequently my road trip companion.
